Rainbow Country" is a series of mixed media works completed in 2012. The work incorporates tropes of graphic novels to re-examine Caribbean attitudes, social critique, and self-introspection. The series analyzes issues that relate to my life here in America, with opinions based on formative years in Trinidad & Tobago. The "Rainbow Country" narrative is centered around the exploits of an alter ego named Kedar. Kedar is rendered through several scenarios as he makes his way to a public pool on the island of Chacachacare. The series channels reggae and calypso music through color, representation, and tone. Like a calypsoian, Kedar takes on the role of storytelling and spreading knowledge, tackling difficult subjects with a lighter voice, as the musical form was originally intended to. Indeed, Chacachacare, a currently uninhabited island, becomes a place for the fantastic sensibilities of home. Acknowledging the distance of time, the work is nostalgic avoiding the urge of contemporary social critique.
